Hi - thanks for the excellent site.

Our requirements are as follows, please let us know if this is possible and guide us in this -

- We're not looking into solutions such as -
DATA GUARD or STREAMS or MViews or links or Triggers or GoldenGate.
This needs to be manual process.
Version:Oracle 9.2.0.5.

1. ONLINE RMAN backup (+ archive log + control file..) from production DB <PROD>
2. Copy Backup from PROD to new server.
3. Use the backup (from PROD) to create new COPYDB on this new server.

4. And eventually on a regular (daily/hourly) basis use the archive log of PROD to be applied (restored in) against COPYDB.

Cheers.
HS.

Apologies if it was not clear -

Thanks again.

http://tahiti.oracle.com

Use the search facilities, you asked for many features so they are spread all over the documentation and papers.

Documentation also covers the steps but you asked for too many and broad subjects we can give any step.
If you want steps you have to choose either Data Guard, aither Streamns, either mviews either Golden Gate either triggers either... but not all of them which would require a 300 pages book to cover them.

Michel -

My question clearly states the following...
"
We're not looking into solutions such as -
DATA GUARD or STREAMS or MViews or links or Triggers or GoldenGate.

This needs to be manual process.
"

I've actually put our requirements into various steps.
I need some tech experts, like you, to guide us in translating it into oracle based scripts or guide to relavant doc/manuals.
-------------
1.ONLINE RMAN backup (+ archive log + control file..) from production DB <PROD>
2. Copy Backup from PROD to new server.
3. Use the backup (from PROD) to create new COPYDB on this new server.

4. And eventually on a regular (daily/hourly) basis use the archive log of PROD to be applied (restored in) against COPYDB.
-------------
As you can see step 4 will be something to think about. If you have some real answers/solutions please post it.

THX.

And what do you want to replicate? A table? A schema? A whole database?
How much lag time do you accept?
How far is the 2 servers?
Do you have a network between?
How is the network?

I'd go for the good old manual standby database with a cron jobs forwarding the archived logs and applying them on the standby.
See http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6uekQo_OZ10 for all the steps.

Michel

Great - this is exaclty what am looking for (did not view the video yet).

"I'd go for the good old manual standby database with a cron jobs forwarding the archived logs and applying them on the standby"

1.Whole database
2.Lag time does not matter - wholly left on us to decide.
3.Local - intranet.

Will check the video and let you know if that's what am looking for.
Thanks again.

In this case, the video is exactly what you need.
