When I showdown or start up my database I receive the error -

ksedmp: internal or fatal error
ORA-00604: error occurred at recursive SQL level 1
ORA-04031: unable to allocate 4032 bytes of share memory ("shared pool","java/lang/stringSYS
,"joxlod: in ehe",ioc_allocate_pal")
ORA-06512: at "SYS.DBMS_JAVA", line 0
ORA-06512: at line 2

It has been suggested to modify the init file to include db_handles_cached = 0

I have 8i.6 running on Win2000

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Try increasing java_pool_size in your init.ora file. If that doesn't work increase shared_pool_size.
